    How Powerful are You?

    It takes more than just strength to be a powerful woman. This month we are talking about the different things that make us feel powerful. “Having babies” is one thing that came up. “Standing up for what you believe” was another comment. Read this months feature about Raising a Powerful Girl. The discussion continues on our facebook page.

    We also have a recipe for a colorful and cool salad that is sure to impress as a side dish or stand alone as a meal! Check it out!

    And this month, not only did our practice turn “6” on April 1st but we are also celebrating Kathy’s Birthday on April 4th and Anne’s Birthday on April 17th! Hope they are HAPPY ones!

    My Girls are POWERFUL!

    Whether we are talking about your daughters or your sisters or your friends, it is very enlightening to surround yourself with powerful women. We found an article we wanted to share about raising powerful girls and some of the ways to just that were:

    • Have a strong set of values. Anne Lindsay shares a quote her Dad often said: “You have to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything.”
    • Encourage independence by allowing girls to make their own decisions whenever possible, take physical risks and challenge herself with activities or problem-solving.
    • Allow for disagreements. There are many ways to look at a situation and sometimes taking a step back and considering different approaches can actually lead to mutual respect and understanding.
    • Listen to yourself, too. We are all our own worst critics and sometimes if we verbalize our disappointment with the way we look, the material things we want, or even talk negatively about others we are setting a bad example.

    Crunchy Asian Slaw

    With warmer weather comes cookouts and picnics and this is the perfect dish to bring along to impress your friends! Plus it is served cold so even those of you who don’t “cook” can pull this off! We promise!

    You’ll need:

    • 16 oz pre-packaged cabbage cole slaw mix
    • 2 oz slivered almonds
    • 1 package ramen noodles
    • 1/4 cup oil
    • Scant 1/4 cup vinegar
    • 1/4 cup sugar

    Mix sugar, ramen seasoning packet, oil, vinegar in a bowl. Crumble the ramen (yes, raw) on top of that. Then pour the cole slaw and almonds on top of everything and mix it all together.

    Put the bowl in the fridge for at least 4 hours. Kate thinks the longer it “marinates” the better it tastes.

    ENJOY! (and then tell your friends that your OB/GYN office does soooooo much more than PAP smears!)
