Below is a typical visit schedule for a normal pregnancy. It lists the visit number, when the visit usually takes place, and what is usually checked at that time.

  • 1st visit (6-8 weeks)
    • perform complete history and physical
    • identify risk factors
    • set up routine blood work
    • prescribe prenatal vitamins
    • perform ultrasound
  • 2nd visit (10-12 weeks)
    • check weight, blood pressure, urine, and fetal heart rate
    • discuss diet and nausea
  • 3rd visit (14-16 weeks)
    • same as 2nd visit plus discuss genetic screening and normal symptoms
  • 4th visit (18-20 weeks)
    • check fetal movement
  • 5th visit (22-24 weeks)

  • 6th visit (26-28 weeks)

    • plus diabetes screening
    • check for Rh compatibility
  • 7th visit (29-31 weeks)

  • 10th visit (38 weeks)

  • 13th visit (41 weeks):
    • discuss induction if not yet delivered
